Caramel Apple Pie Taquitos – tortillas filled with apple pie filling, rolled in sugar and cinnamon, oven baked and drizzled with caramel sauce are real fall dessert. This quick and easy recipe will be a hit this fall. Caramel Apple Pie Taquitos can be served for breakfast, snack or a dessert.
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or baking sheet with melted butter, or cooking spray and set aside.
Next, combine sugar and cinnamon in a large plate or shallow dish and set aside.
Chop apples from the apple pie filling into smaller pieces, then place few tablespoons of apple pie filling on ⅓ of the tortilla (look at the photo) and roll tight.
Then, spread butter over it and roll into a cinnamon and sugar mixture, so that it is well coated.
Put the tortillas into the baking pan with seam side down. Repeat the same procedure until all the ingredients are used.
Bake the tortillas for 15-20 minutes or until they get golden brown and crunchy.
When you take them out of the oven, let them cool, then drizzle with caramel sauce before serving. Serve warm.
Notes
How to store the leftovers? Keep them refrigerated in an airtight container for no longer then 3 days. Make sure to heat them in a microwave oven or an oven before serving.
Can Caramel Apple Pie Taquitos be frozen? Yes, they can, but before you bake them. Make the taquitos, cover the baking sheet and keep in the freezer for up to 2 months, then defrost before baking.
Can other types of pie fillings be used? Absolutely! You can use the filling that you like.
Can homemade apple pie filling be used? If you don’t like canned apple pie filling, feel free to use a homemade one.
Can I use brown sugar? Yes, you can. I recommend light brown sugar.
Is caramel sauce necessary for this recipe? No! If you don’t like it, these taquitos can be served without the caramel sauce, with vanilla ice-cream or whipped topping, instead.
Use soft, flour tortillas for this recipe, not the corn flour ones.
If you prefer tortillas to be extra crunchy, bake them for few more minutes. In that case, stay close to the oven and check the taquitos occasionally and don’t let them get overburnt.
