Dirt Pudding Recipe - this quick and easy make-ahead dessert made with crushed Oreos and whipped vanilla pudding topped with gummy worms will wow both kids and adults! It’s fun to prepare, so the kids will be excited to help, and it’s the perfect treat for Halloween!
Place the Oreo cookies in a large zip lock bag, seal it, and crush them with a rolling pin. Alternatively, you can put them in a food processor and pulse until crumbled.
I like to leave some larger chunks for texture, but you can crush them finely if you prefer—it’s up to you. Set the crushed Oreos aside.
Preparing the Whipped Vanilla Pudding
In a large bowl, combine the milk with instant vanilla pudding, and whisk until it begins to thicken, about 2 minutes. Place it in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Meanwhile,
in a separate bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat the cream cheese, softened butter, and powdered sugar until smooth.
Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding and mix on medium speed until well combined. Finally, fold in the thawed whipped topping.
Assembling the Dessert
In an ungreased 9x13-inch glass baking dish, spread ⅓ of the crushed Oreo cookies on the bottom. Top with ½ of the whipped pudding.
Next, add half of the remaining Oreos, then the rest of the whipped pudding. Finish with a layer of the remaining crushed Oreos. You’ll have a total of 5 layers—3 Oreo layers and 2 whipped pudding layers in between.
Chilling
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow the pudding to set properly. For best results, chill overnight. Decorate with gummy worms before serving.
Notes
Use softened cream cheese and butter so they whip together easily into a smooth, creamy mixture without lumps.
Storage
Keep dirt pudding covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
