Mom’s Homemade Rolls are favorite kind of rolls in my family. I like to prepare them for dinner, although they are so delicious, that I can have them for every meal. They are unbelievably tasty, soft, buttery – in one word – perfect
Put flour in a large dish. Make a hole in the flour and put 2 eggs, oil, shortening, salt, and sugar and apple cider vinegar.
In a separate dish, combine warm milk and yeast and mix until yeast melts. Pour it in the dish with flour. Knead until you get fine dough. It should be a bit harder and not sticky.
Cover the dish and leave the dough to rise for an hour.
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside. Beat an egg and set aside.
Take the dough out of the dish and divide into 3 pieces. Make 3 balls. Roll each ball using your hands, so to make it longer, to get the shape of French baguette bread ( picture 2). They should be about 27 inch long.
Cut each piece to 20 smaller pieces and now you will have 60 of them ( picture 2) . Take one piece of dough and press it with your hand, then roll it with rolling pin until very thin, around 0.05 inch.
Roll it with your hand then, to make the roll ( picture 3). While doing this, try to make the rolls longer by rolling them forward and moving your hands to the right and left, at the same time (picture 4)
Place them in the baking sheet . Repeat the same procedure with the rest 29 pieces of dough.
Coat with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame.
Put a small piece of butter or margarine on each roll. Bake at 375 until light lightly browned, which is about 20-25 minutes.
While the rolls are baking, repeat the procedure with the rest of the dough .
When baked, put the second baking sheet in the oven.
Notes
When the rolls are baked and cooled, you can freeze them. When heated, they will be as soft and fresh, as before freezing. The quantity of milk might differ, depending on the flour, so add milk slowly. You can add more than it´s given in the recipe. Make sure the dough is a bit harder and not sticky
