I often prepare Taco Tortilla Roll Ups and I know that everyone likes them. They can be prepared a day earlier and kept refrigerated until serving. Easy, easy, easy… Tasty, tasty, tasty… A perfect appetizer, if you ask me. Prepare it in winter, for Christmas, New Year´s Eve, Game Day, in summer for 4th July, or for picnic all year long.

What do you need to make these Roll Ups?

  • 6 Burrito sized flour tortillas
  • 8 Oz Cream cheese, softened
  • 4 Oz Sour cream
  • 2 tablespoon Taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup Taco sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
  • 1/3 cup Cilantro, finely chopped

How to prepare Taco Tortilla Roll Ups?  

In a larger dish combine cream cheese and sour cream. Add taco seasoning and taco sauce and mix until combined. Stir in cheddar cheese, shredded chicken and cilantro. Filling – spread over tortillas using spatula. Roll tight and leave in the fridge for a few hours. Cut into rings 1/2 inch thick. 

NOTES:

You can keep in the fridge over night then cut into pinwheels the next day. Can keep it in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Also you can use canned chicken or crumbled cooked sausage instead of cooked and shredded chicken.

This recipe is for 60 rolls (pieces). It’s a cold appetizer, so don’t heat up in the oven.

Taco sauce – you can buy it at the store or make it at home. Stir tomato sauce, water, vinegar, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, garlic salt, chili powder, paprika, sugar and cayenne pepper.

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 Burrito sized flour tortillas
  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened
  • 4 oz Sour cream
  • 2 tablespoon Taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup Taco sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked and shredded chicken
  • 1/3 cup Cilantro, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a larger dish combine cream cheese and sour cream.
  2. Add taco seasoning and taco sauce and mix until combined. Stir in cheddar cheese, shredded chicken and cilantro.
  3. Spread 1/6 filling over tortilla using spatula. Roll tight. Cover with plastic foliage.
  4. Repeat the same procedure until all the ingredients are used. Keep refrigerated for a few hours.
  5. Cut in to 1/2 inch thick wheels before serving, using serrated knife.

    Whats the best way to cook the chicken? I have breast meat and thighs to cook. I thought just pan fry with salt and pepper but any other suggestions would be great.

    Do they get soggy? I made something like this but put the cream cream cheese and sour cream on b4 the chicken and salsa .. That was probably why mine was soggy..

      You can create a moisture barrier layer between the wet ingredients and the tortilla; well-dried layers of lettuce or spinach usually do the best.

    I made these and I found them very easy to make and tasty. The Taco seasoning was very good but a bit overpowering to the other ingredients so I just added an extra dollop of sour cream and it balanced out perfectly, for us. Otherwise, I made no other changes and stuck to the recipe as written. Very good and will be making again for sure! Thank you for sharing, very good!
