Soft and chewy Oreo cookies topped with creamy chocolate mousse, Oreo crumbs, and gummy worms. A fun and easy twist on classic dirt cake, perfect for Halloween, parties, birthdays, or whenever you want a playful chocolate treat.
Preheat the oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Prepare the Oreos. Pulse 7 Oreo cookies in a food processor until coarsely crushed, with some larger pieces remaining. Crush 9 Oreo cookies into fine crumbs for the dough. Crush 6 additional Oreo cookies into fine crumbs for coating.
Make the cookie dough. Beat the softened butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Add the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until incorporated.Fold in the coarse Oreo pieces and fine Oreo crumbs.
Scoop and coat the dough. Using a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop the dough and place each portion directly into the bowl of Oreo crumbs. Gently roll and coat the dough in the crumbs, making sure it is evenly covered. Place the coated dough portions on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Do not overbake—the cookies should remain soft in the center. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the chocolate mousse. Combine the instant chocolate pudding mix, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. Add the milk, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth, creamy, and thick enough to pipe. Transfer the mousse to a piping bag.
Decorate. Once the cookies are completely cool, pipe the chocolate mousse onto each cookie. Sprinkle with additional Oreo crumbs and top with gummy worms.
Notes
Do not overbake the cookies. The edges should be set while the centers remain soft.
Let the cookies cool completely before adding the chocolate mousse.
For the best texture and appearance, add the gummy worms just before serving.
Store the decorated cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep the chocolate mousse fresh.
The baked cookies can be made ahead and frozen before decorating.
